Thomas Demand contacted Proof to assist with the planning for his stop-motion film project re-enacting the chaos within a cruise ship caught in a violent storm. Based on the artist’s designs and actual closed-circuit footage of the event, we animated the action of each element as it tumbled back and forth across the floor of the ship. Once the animation was approved, we derived motion maps that plotted the speed, position and rotation of each element for use on set by the 12-person stop-motion animation team.
